WONDER AMAZON

The Amazons and Wonder Woman are mirror images of one another: strong and courageous women who fight for their independence with sacrifice and dedication, without ever renouncing the sensitivity and empathy that define them.

Wonder Woman is a character owned by DC Comics.

The Amazons are said to be descendants of Ares, the god of war, and devoted followers of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. In Greek mythology, the Amazons were a tribe of warrior women renowned for their horsemanship, courage, and pride.
According to legend, in order to perfect their skill with the bow, they chose to remove one of their breasts, thus becoming exceptional archers. They lived at the farthest edges of the known world, in an unspecified region of the Caucasus Mountains between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. From there, they later migrated to the southern coast of the Black Sea, in present-day Turkey, where they established their capital city, Themiscyra.

Trivia: The Amazons appear in numerous epic poems and ancient legends, including The Labors of Hercules, The Argonautica, and the Iliad. In the latter, they took part in the Trojan War, fighting bravely on the side of Troy. According to one version of the myth, the Amazon queen Penthesilea was killed in battle during a hand-to-hand combat with Achilles. It is said that, upon seeing the dying warrior, Achilles was moved to tears, captivated by her final gaze and struck by her beauty.

Wonder Woman was created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston, with artwork by H. G. Peter. She is considered the first female superhero in history and has become, over time, an icon of feminism and women’s emancipation.
A princess and Amazon-Olympian warrior, Wonder Woman is known in her homeland, the island of Themyscira, by her official title, Princess Diana of Themyscira. Her origin story dates back to the Golden Age of comics and tells that she was sculpted from clay by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and granted life as an Amazon from birth, along with superpowers bestowed as gifts from the Greek goddesses.

Trivia: Marston, her creator, was the inventor of the polygraph, the so-called “lie detector”: this is why Wonder Woman’s lasso forces anyone it binds to always tell the truth, exposing every lie. The author was also a radical feminist, but he also had a deep fascination with dominance, submission, and bondage. He believed that women were superior and that, in the end, they would rule the world because they are more compassionate and less aggressive.
